Modern dentures are certainly nothing like your grandparents wore, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be improved. While tens of millions of Americans are missing all of their teeth, implant dentures in Manchester can help you smile not just for years, but for decades! Their functionality and esthetics combined with this longevity make them truly a stand-out solution for extensive tooth replacement. Following an extraction, the root of the tooth comes right out alongside the crown. A dental implant is essentially a replacement root for your teeth equipped with an abutment (or connector) that attaches to a dedicated restoration. This could be a crown, bridge, or denture, depending on your specific needs. When receiving an implant denture, keep in mind that you’ll have two options to consider: fixed or removable.
A fixed implant denture will not be removable outside of a dental office once it has been placed. It is meant to replace your dental arch as closely as possible, meaning you won’t need to remove your denture to keep it clean or worry about adhesives. However, you will need to have enough healthy bone tissue since it requires four to six implants to remain stable.
Removable dentures allow you to take them out as needed for cleaning, making them more akin to traditional dentures. However, they can easily snap back onto your dental implants as needed. While these do require more maintenance to keep clean, they also require fewer dental implants to receive (between two and five).
If you intend to receive an implant denture, you’ll have a series of dental implant surgically placed into the jawbone and given time to heal. Then, we’ll capture an impression of your mouth and use this as a blueprint to customize your denture. This ensures that the prosthesis fits your mouth exactly. Once the healing process is complete (which usually takes about four to six months), you’ll come back to our office to have the permanent restoration attached. We’ll make any final adjustments before you leave if needed.
Candidates for implant dentures should have not only good oral and overall health, but enough bone tissue for the dental implants to integrate properly. Without this, the osseointegration process will not occur correctly and the implants won’t stay secure. Additionally, patients should be committed to practicing diligent at-home oral care to ensure their gum tissue remains healthy. We’ll review your specific goals and needs so we can make recommendations on how to best rebuild your smile.
